Predictors of Burnout, Job Satisfaction, and Turnover Among CRNAs During COVID-19 Surging

Original source published: 2022

The bottom line

Among the modifiable predictors of CRNA burnout, this study elevates two that leaders directly control: the quality of the CRNA–administration relationship and how much feedback clinicians get about their work. Improving those channels may pay off in both satisfaction and retention. Because data were collected during a COVID surge and the design is cross-sectional, the strength of these associations in steady-state practice is less certain.

What the source found

Structural equation modeling study of CRNAs; decreased job feedback, poor CRNA-administration relations, and work-over-personal-life prioritization predicted burnout; burnout correlated with job satisfaction and turnover intention; CRNA-administration relationship quality and job feedback quality were independently predictive.

Limitations and applicability

Survey during COVID surge may overestimate steady-state burnout; cross-sectional design limits causal inference.

Population and setting
